CATS is based on the popular poetry of T.S. Eliot. This all-dance performance is set in a gigantic rubbish dump, which after dark comes to life with cats of all types, shapes, and sizes. The cat clan gathers for the night of the Jellicle Ball. At the annual event, the revered elder, Old Deuteronomy, chooses the most deserving cat to ascend with him for a heavenly reward. One by one, the cats reveal their personalities as T.S. Eliot portrayed them in his book of poems, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats
Hailed as “a true musical theatre phenomenon,” CATS opened at London’s New London Theatre on May 11, 1981 and ran for a record-setting 21 years. The success of CATS continued on Broadway, where it ran at the Winter Garden Theatre for just over 18 years.
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by T.S. Eliot
Direction and Choreography by Susan Lamontagne
Musical Direction by Josh Smith
Supported by a cast that includes Upper Valley performers, Ken Prymus, a star in CATS on Broadway, will headline in his role as Old Deuteronomy.
