Chamber Executive Director Tracy Hutchins explains how the week works.
Q: How did the idea for a restaurant week get started?
A: Restaurant Week was started a few years ago when some of our local restaurants explored joining the statewide New Hampshire Restaurant Week that takes place in March. The statewide event is terrific, but our local businesses found that most of their advertising dollars were spent in the Nashua to Concord and Seacoast areas of the state, and consequently, our Upper Valley residents were unaware that the event was taking place. So we decided to hold our own event for the greater Hanover region, which also allows us to include Vermont restaurants as well.
Q: How does restaurant week work?
A: During Restaurant Week, participating restaurants offer special fixed-price menus that allow diners to try a new place to eat or an old favorite at a discount. Some restaurants offer only a lunch menu, such as Lou’s Restaurant & Bakery, and others offer only dinner or both lunch and dinner. Diners just need to tell waitstaff that they are there for restaurant week to receive a special menu. It’s a great time to discover a restaurant that you haven’t tried or a new dish at a favorite restaurant without breaking the bank.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: We hope that many hungry Upper Valley folks will come out to try our participating restaurants during December 2 through 10. Come early and come hungry! There are so many great dishes and places to visit. Menus can be found at http://bit.ly/hanoverrestaurantweek.
