Q & A with VCA Director Jessica Pierpont: Get to Know the Vermont Chamber Artists
Mar 19, 2018 01:50PM ● By Linda DitchIf you’re looking for a new musical experience, either as an observer or a participant, then you should check out the Vermont Chamber Artists. This is a relatively new chamber choir based in Sharon, Vermont. Sixteen professional singers from throughout the Upper Valley not only dedicate their time to the group but also are involved in giving back to the community.
VCA Director and Conductor Jessica Pierpont answered a few questions to explain the choir’s mission and upcoming plans.
Q: What is the mission of the Vermont Chamber Artists?
A: Vermont Chamber Artists is a professional choir committed to providing quality music and performance practice experience while serving our community in a series of outreach projects throughout the season.
Q: Why do you enjoy being a part of the group?
A: I have greatly enjoyed being a part of and creating Vermont Chamber Artists because there just simply isn’t enough music here in Vermont, and having this opportunity has created an avenue for me personally to be part of a top-notch choir. Adding to the choral and music scene in our area is a huge benefit both personally and professionally. Being part of this ensemble, I am able to connect with so many different kinds of people, whether it’s my singers, instrumentalists, people in our community, staff, or volunteers. This group touches the lives of so many people, not just choral singers. It’s also quite an amazing feeling to create quality art; the choir uses every opportunity to be creative but never strays far from the composer’s true intent, and that is something we are very proud of.
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: On February 24th and February 25th, we finished our Fauré Requiem concert series to benefit the Friends of Veterans organization. We have plans to continue supporting this organization certainly for the next year and hope to make plans for the next few years. We are lining up venue spaces and a new repertoire.
Q: Is there anything specific you want people to know?
A: Yes, we want people to know that, even if choral music isn’t something that you are normally into, we are trying to raise awareness for different causes in our community. Our biggest hope is that we want our community and audience to be filled with people who support our mission of helping others. Music is just one way of uniting people to help create a better world. We want people to know that, no matter who you or where you come from, musically inclined or not, we want to help, and we want you to be part of this organization!
Q: How can someone join the chamber?
A: If someone is interested in being part of this choir, he or she can email me at[email protected] to set up an audition and to receive more information about our choir.
