No More Wings and Wheels—At Least For This Year
Jun 22, 2018 12:40PM ● By Linda DitchThe annual Wings and Wheels event put on by the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce as a way to showcase the airport and give the area an end-of-summer event will not take place this year. The reason? There’s nowhere to hold it.
The Lebanon Airport has plans to lease out the executive ramp section, where Wings and Wheels was held in the past. In a Valley News article, Chamber Executive Director Rob Taylor said, “We traditionally host that event at the Lebanon Airport, and Lebanon informed us that the space that we have normally used is going to be leased...we’re kind of losing our location, and so my board voted to let that one go. It’s bittersweet. We really enjoyed that event.”
Each year, the event attracted approximately 1,500 people who wanted a close-up look at a variety of airplanes. It was especially magical for kids. There were not only planes to check out (an even go for a ride!) but also fire trucks and classic cars. Food vendors helped keep everyone from going hungry.
The air show was envisioned to be Lebanon’s showcase event, much like Quechee’s balloon festival and Keene’s pumpkin festival. The Experimental Aircraft Association attended all four years, using the event as an opportunity to introduce young people to its Young Eagles program with free flights. The Upper Valley Flying Club also attended.
Talks are already underway by the Chamber focusing on finding a replacement for the event, though nothing will happen for this year. They are already involved with the Lebanon Food Truck Festival this weekend and the Rotary Club’s BrewFest in August.
