GooberPick, founded by West Lebanon Feed & Supply owner Curt Jacques, is the first service of its kind in the country, developed and launched in the Upper Valley. The service is set up to partner with local businesses with fast-moving consumables in order to bring their customers the convenience of online shopping with ultra-fast local delivery. GooberPick’s custom-designed delivery pods are placed strategically throughout the local area for customers to choose the most convenient delivery location when shopping online at their favorite local GooberPick-partnered stores, saving time and supporting local.

“Goober will change the way you shop and support local—with the convenience of online shopping and fast, easy delivery, all while saving time and supporting local business!” West Lebanon Feed & Supply’s Facebook page announced in April.

West Lebanon Feed & Supply sits next to a propane tank storage depot and a coin-operated laundry facility by the railroad tracks in West Lebanon. Looking at those venues, Jacques formed his idea, which has been in the works for the past two years.

Jacques named his business for the definition of the word, “goober,” which is peanut. A peanut, he said, is a seed, and “from a seed, things grow.”

The e-commerce platform, which was developed by a California software company, is the main feature of the service. The platform will list up to 1,000 products per retailer.

The pea-green colored lockers were designed and created by a Canadian firm that invested $100,000 in the project. Each bay houses 36 lockers of three different sizes. Deliveries to the white, walk-in pods—about the same size as a racecar trailer—are scheduled every 12 hours and customers receive an alert with an entry code via phone or email when the package is placed inside.

There is also a vending-machine component, giving customers an opportunity to buy products they may have forgotten in their online orders or make impulse buys at pickup.

The first pod will be located in the parking lot at Enfield House of Pizza on Route 4 in Enfield. Pods will also open in Sharon, Woodstock, Windsor, Grantham, Route 120 in Lebanon, Lyme, and one of the parking lots of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. A bay of lockers has already been placed inside a building at West Lebanon Feed & Supply, so customers can pick up their purchases outside of normal operating hours. Jacques envisions 100 lockers in the Northeast within two years.
