holidays are fast approaching. If you are kind enough to host this season, here are some tips to make your life a little easier.
- Clear out your fridge.
- Keep your food and drink cabinets stocked.
- Make tech easy - provide wi-fi.
- Have fresh linens and bath towels ready (if you have overnight guests coming.)
- Make sure the bathroom is set up for a crowd (extra towels and toilet paper on hand.)
- Be friendly, warm, sociable, and communicate well.
As a host, prepare
what you can ahead of time. A
good host is a team player and keeps their composure when working with guests. The
emphasis must be on doing the best they can—making their house warm and
welcoming, serving plentiful food and drinks, and gathering together a
compatible and convivial group of people. The most memorable dinners will stand
out because of the company and conversation, not the table decorations or hors
d'oeuvres. Most importantly, a good host allows guests to feel welcome and at
ease.
If you are the guest
On the other hand, if you’re
a guest, there are expectations as well. For example, once you receive an
invitation, send your response to the host in a timely manner (this usually means within 7 days.) Respect house
rules. It's not mandatory, but it would be a wonderful gesture to arrive with a gift. Doesn't need to be a big thing, maybe a bottle of wine, or a box of chocolates, or a festive holiday dish towel. There are some great spots in town to shop at. The Lemon Tree Gifts of Hanover, My Brigadeiro, Simon Pearce, Clover Gift Shop, Chocolate Fusion Co or Main Street Kitchens, among many others in the Upper
Valley.
Another tip is a timely exit. Be aware of the time; no need to linger and make the host wish you had already gone by then. Before you go, offer help to clean up, and of course, the most important tip is don't forget to Thank the host.
Happy Holiday's Everyone!
