Walk the trails
Get away from technology and enjoy the beauty of nature by taking a hike. There are many trails and paths in the Upper Valley to choose from. The Montshire Museum of Science has 110 acres of woodland and nature trails to explore. The Upper Valley Trails Alliance has several trails to explore as well.
Scavenger hunt and crafts
Fall has lots of fun things to look at and touch in nature like changing leaf colors, branches on the ground, pinecones, etc. Bring those items indoors and have a fun craft time. You could glue the leaves on paper and make a collage, put a leaf under the paper and rub a crayon over the top, or decorate a pinecone with glue and beads or sparkles to make an ornament.
Pick apples and make an apple pie
Apple picking is in full swing. Take advantage by heading to your favorite orchard, picking some delicious apples, and making a warm apple pie. Here’s a recommendation from All Recipes: Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
Go to a maze
Many apple orchards have more to offer than just apple picking like corn mazes. Give your youngster the chance to feel like a big kid and have them lead the group through the maze.
Clean up the yard
Before the snow arrives, cleaning up your yard for the winter is paramount. Make it a fun activity for your child by having them help. Have them sort sticks, leaves, and whatever else you need to clean up. Wear a matching or similar outfit. Play some music and have a dance party while you clear the yard. If you’re having fun, they’ll have fun.
