Oct 29, 2024 11:49AM ● By Elise Renaud

Halloween is just a few days away. Whether you’re trick-or-treating is done for this year or if it’s just starting, you’re bound to have too much candy to eat.

If you’re looking for some ideas on how to use the candy, here are a few to consider:

CANDY PIZZA

Take your leftover candy and turn it into a twist on an Italian classic with candy pizza.

According to Food.com, the recipe takes about 40 minutes and uses only four ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • (18 ounce) package refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough

  • 1(6 ounce) package of chocolate chips

  • 1⁄2 cup of chunky peanut butter or 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped assorted candy bar (Nestle Crunch, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, Hershey's, etc.)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

  2. Grease large baking sheet or pizza pan.

  3. Place whole bar of cookie dough scored side down, shaping to fit prepared baking sheet.

  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.

  5. Immediately sprinkle morsels over hot crust; drop peanut butter by spoonfuls onto morsels.

  6. Let stand for 5 minutes or until morsels are shiny.

  7. Gently spread chocolate and peanut butter evenly over cookie crust.

  8. Sprinkle candy in single layer over pizza.

  9. Cut into wedges.

  10. Serve warm or at room temperature.

DONATE IT TO DEPLOYED TROOPS

Treats for Troops through Soldier’s Angels collects candy to give to service members.

“Families with too much candy after Halloween can donate excess candy to support a good cause. Kids may even earn buyback prizes for their generosity and families will receive a tax-deductible receipt for their donation,” the website said.

There are also several collection sites across the country where candy can be dropped off. View the map to find out which collection sites near you are still taking candy.

FREEZE IT

Make the candy last longer by freezing it to have later. This keeps it out of sight so it doesn’t get eaten too quickly and it can be reused later for Christmas stockings, parties, or Easter eggs.

INFUSE IT IN A COCKTAIL

Take some of your kids’ candy for yourself and make a unique drink. Make It Grateful suggests making candy vodka with Jolly Ranchers.

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter vodka

  • Two 1-pound bags of assorted Jolly Rancher candies (50 candies)

Directions:

  1. Separate Jolly Rancher candies by flavors.

  2. Divide vodka among several flasks, one for each flavor you're using.

  3. Drop Jolly Ranchers of each flavor into each flask, adjusting candy/vodka ratios as desired. (We used 25 pieces of candy for each half liter of vodka.)

  4. Using a funnel, pour vodka into the flasks, saturating the candies.

  5. Shake the bottles a few times a day until candies have completely dissolved.

  6. In only 24 hours, your infusion will be done and ready to drink!

  7. Serve chilled for best flavor.
