As always, the Macs on the trees are hard and tart in early September, so to get Macs, you have to go pick your own. In the retail tent you’ll find ready-packed Ginger Gold and Paula Red apples, and also Clapp’s Favorite pears. We always start small in the retail stand, and add more and more apple varieties as they become ready to harvest. Other fall treats in early September: chrysanthemums from Edgewater Farm, Taylor Brothers’ maple syrup, and John Morin’s honey, in jars or in the comb. By about mid-month, we can press sweet cider and start bringing in the pumpkins
