Enjoy a Family-friendly Weekend at The Cornish Fair
Aug 18, 2015 01:30PM ● By Kirsten GehlbachGates open at 7am each day. On Friday at 9am, the 4-H Horse Show kicks off the events, and the doors open to the Art Show and Sale in the Town Hall Building. At 9:30am, the Farm Horse Event opens for the day at the Woodsmen Ring. At 10am, the 4-H Sheep Fitting and Showmanship starts in the Dairy Judging Tent, and the midway opens for the day.
This is just the start, with competitions from sheep shearing to a llama show and rabbit jumping contest, an ox pull for drivers 14 and under, and free-for-all tractor and horse pulls, plus beef and dairy shows. Add to the mix face painting, games, and entertainment by the Flying High Frisbee Dogs, the Joe Howard Magic Show, and Linda Peck’s Circus of the Imagination. Helicopter rides are available from the soccer field on Friday and Saturday from 1 to 8pm, weather permitting.
This year the parade will be held on Saturday at 1pm with the start on Parsonage Road through the handicapped parking entrance toward the blacksmith shop and then back onto Parsonage Road.
Each year, the Cornish Fair Association strives to bring a variety of entertainment to appeal to all ages. The lineup of talented musicians will be featured on the Whelen Pavilion Stage. For country music fans, this year’s entertainment features the Jim Libby Band on Friday, August 21, at 2 and 6:30pm; Jay Taylor on Saturday, August 22, at 2:30 pm; and also on Saturday, Sean Wyatt at 7pm and Jamie Lee Thurston at 8pm. Other artists perform at various fairground locations throughout the weekend.
Admission $10; kids 12 and under are free. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available.
