With The Addition of The Trails on Mt. Peg, Woodstock is Becoming a Hotspot for Mountain Biking in Vermont

May 11, 2016 07:59PM ● By Finn Mc Farland
With his first winter as Recreational Trails and Nordic Director at The Woodstock Inn & Resort under his belt, Nick Mahood is ready for the mountain-biking season to begin! The Woodstock Inn offers numerous recreational activities including alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, tennis, and golf. This summer, mountain biking will be the newest addition.

“This is brand new for the Inn,” explains Nick, who has been working tirelessly to prepare trails that climb the side of Mt. Peg. In addition to the existing Nordic ski trails, he hopes to have five to six miles of single-track trails completed by the end of this summer. The Inn will offer mountain-bike rentals for kids and adults.

With the addition of the trails on Mt. Peg, Woodstock is becoming a hotspot for mountain biking in Vermont. This winter, local mountain bikers, including Nick, formed the Woodstock Area Mountain Bike Association, a chapter of the Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA). The VMBA works to promote mountain biking in Vermont by providing support for local events as well as education and advocacy for the sport. Their comprehensive list of trails and facilities across the state will soon include those secured by the Woodstock chapter, including the recent acquisition of trails at the Woodstock Aqueduct, just off Cox District Road.

As Woodstock works to become a popular destination for mountain biking in Vermont, Nick is already planning future additions to the trails and terrain on Mt. Peg. He hopes to build more tracks and even a skills loop in Knox Meadow in the next few years.
