4 Must-See Game of Thrones Locations
Sep 20, 2017 04:00PM ● By Linda DitchThe TravelPirates.com website has a great article titled “21 Game of Thrones Filming Locations You Can Actually Visit.” Four countries offer the most intriguing GOT spots:
1. Spain
This country is home to many prime GOT spots. Some of the highlights include the Bardenas Reales badlands in the Southeast, one of the locations for the Dothraki Sea; Almodóvar del Rio castle, which was the stand-in for Queen of Thorns’ Highgarden; and Dorne’s palace, which in real life is the Alcázar of Seville. Plus don’t miss Castillo de Trujillo, the setting for Casterly Rock.
2. Northern Ireland
This country (actually part of the United Kingdom) is also home to many GOT scenes. Castle Ward in County Down served as Winterfell, and there are many GOT tours and activities offered for visitors. Ballintoy Harbour and Murlough Bay serve as the setting for the Iron Islands. Melisandre’s birthing cave was in the area of the Cushendun Caves. Castlerock was used as Dragonstone, and the Dark Hedges in Ballymoney is the real-life King’s Road.
3. Croatia
If you ever wonder what
it would be like to visit King’s Landing, then go to Dubrovnik, which is the
primary filming location for sites like the Red Keep gardens and castle walls.
4. Iceland
Want to visit the lands Beyond the Wall? Then head to Vatnajökull National Park to see the huge glaciers, snow-topped mountains, icy caves, and warm geothermal rivers used to depict that chilling area.
The countries of Malta and Morocco also serve as GOT locations. For all the locations and details, check out the TravelPirates.com article to learn more at www.travelpirates.com/captains-log/21-game-of-thrones-filming-locations-you-can-actually-visit_5932.
