Jul 31, 2018 05:30PM ● By Linda Ditch
When the hazy and humid weather starts to get to you, and you start to ask yourself why you haven’t installed central AC yet, it’s time to find somewhere for you and the family to cool off! Here are nine places to go when the heat starts to get to you.

1. Dairy Twirl

Dairy Twirl, 39 Mechanic Street, Lebanon: This is a great place for ice cream, but if you don’t go soon, you could miss out since it’s only open for the summer. Until the season ends, you can get ice cream seven days a week from 11 am to 9 pm. They offer both soft serve and hard-scoop varieties, with special flavors featured each week. Check out their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Dairytwirl39/ for the latest flavors and other news.

2. Entertainment Cinemas

Entertainment Cinemas, 390 Miracle Mile, Lebanon: Check out the latest releases and enjoy the cool AC at the movies. You can find out what’s playing and when at  entertainmentcinemas.com/locations/lebanon/.

3. Upper Valley Aquatic Center

Upper Valley Aquatic Center, 100 Arboretum Lane, White River Junction: Grab the kids and head to the Splash Park at UVAC. The Lazy River carries you past small waterfalls and other water elements, and the kiddie pool provides easy access to the water for the youngest swimmers. There are lots of interactive water features, and the more adventurous can climb 20 feet to the top of the speed slide and take a 110-foot corkscrew ride out of the building before landing back inside. UVAC also offers swimming lessons for all ages, as well as other water activities and fitness classes. Visit uvacswim.org to learn more.

4. Treasure Island

Treasure Island on Lake Fairlee, Thetford: This town-owned recreation area is a great place to swim, fish, play volleyball, and more. The beach is well maintained (as are the restrooms), and there is a lifeguard on duty. The beach is open from 8 am to 8 pm daily until Monday, September 4.  Go to the Thetford Recreation Department’s website for admission prices and more details. www.thetfordrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=28954

5. Storrs Pond

Storrs Pond Recreation Area, Hanover: Two types of swimming are available—a huge sandy-beach pond and a swimming pool. The beach is open from sunrise to sunset. A roped-off area is supervised by lifeguards from noon to 5 pm every day until early September. Beach toys are available to share on the sandy beach. If you need a break from the sun, there is an abundance of shade trees around the pond. A beach volleyball court is next to the beach, along with a playground. If you prefer a swimming pool, it’s open with lifeguards from 11 am to 7 pm every day until early September.

6. Lebanon Veterans Memorial Pool

Lebanon Memorial Pool, 67 Pumping Station Road: This public pool offers a splash area with spray features, a 25-yard, 8-lane instruction pool, bathhouse, lifeguard stations, and picnic area. It’s open Monday–Saturday from noon to 7 pm and Sunday noon to 5 pm. For fees and other information, go to the town website. lebanonnh.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/Lebanon-Veterans-Memorial-Pool-9)

8.) Montshire Museum

Montshire Museum of Science, 1 Montshire Road, Norwich: Fire up the kids’ neurons and their curiosity before school starts with a visit to the Montshire Museum of Science. This is a hands-on museum with more than 150 exhibits relating to the natural and physical sciences, ecology, and technology. It’s open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Go to www.montshire.org for admission rates and more information.

9.) Family Fun Zone
