S'mores…a campfire treat traditionally composed of toasted marshmallows and a layer of chocolate placed between two pieces of graham cracker or cookie.
Around for nearly 100 years, “some more” appeared in a cookbook where it was
called a graham cracker sandwich and then changed its' name to S'mores in the late
1930's.
The recipe wasn’t modified much through the years until the 21st
century when the usual summer delight became more creative resulting in such
delicacies as candied bacon S'mores, roasted berries S'mores, cookie butter S'mores, Samoa cookie S'mores, chocolate chip cookie Nutella S'more, Elvis S'mores, and chocolate-covered potato chip S'mores.
Regardless, here are some
of the more popular recipes that put a unique spin on this popular summer treat
using the classic baking method for each: Peanutty S’more (spread a thin
layer of Reese’s Peanut Butter on graham crackers); Chocolate Banana S’more (place
slices of banana on top of chocolate bar); Choco-Cherry S’ more (cut two
maraschino cherries into slices and place on top of chocolate bar); Choco-Berry
S’more (place slices of strawberries on top of chocolate bar); or Raspberry
S’more (spread thin layer of seedless red raspberry preserves on graham
cracker).
Traditionally cooked using a campfire, these and other S'mores can
also be made at home in an oven, microwave, or S'mores-making kit. Simple, fun, and delicious to be enjoyed by
everyone, young or old, camper or a couch potato.
Happy roasting!
