Plainfield’s Pumpkin People were born in 2012 in East Plainfield, New Hampshire, the brainchild of three neighbors who distributed a flyer to a handful of homes in the area to drum up interest. “We had 30 households creating Pumpkin People the first year,” says organizer John Austin. “Each year, we broadened the distribution of our flyer until we reached a high of 190 different creations. A couple of years ago the town also helped in promoting the event, which has been seen on television and in magazines and newspapers. We’re grateful to one company in town in particular that offered to make a mapping site so people could check it out and find exactly where the pumpkin people are.” Go to pumpkinpeople.org, which is provided by BFC (www.bfccomputing.com). The cute or sometimes scary figures begin to arrive in town on September 26, and on October 10 businesses will begin handing out paper maps of where to find this year’s creations.
