See The October Lineup At The Hop At Dartmouth

Fall is in the air and that means new student performances and events at The Hopkins Center For Arts at Dartmouth College.

The October schedule is full of many fun and creative events to attend. Admission varies.


Oct. 3: War Game at 7 p.m.

“This political docu-thriller follows a bipartisan group of US defense and legislative leaders as they simulate their response to a reprise of the Jan 6 attack. Discussion follows,” the website said.


Oct. 4 and 5: First-Year Projects at 7:30 p.m.

“The First-Year Project is a theatrical event created and devised entirely by First-Year Students. Material might include scenes, monologues, songs, dances, improvisations and/or original material written by the First-Year company,” the website said.


Oct. 5: Les Contes d’Hoffman at 1 p.m.

“Acclaimed tenor Benjamin Bernheim sings the title role of the tormented poet, alongside sopranos Erin Morley and Pretty Yende and mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine,” the website said.


Oct. 6: A Clockwork Orange at 2 p.m.

“Malcolm McDowell stars in Stanley Kubrick's darkly ironic and notoriously violent near-future satire. Discussion follows,” the website said.


Oct. 6: Reception with Malcom McDowell at 5:15 p.m.

“Enjoy a chat and drink with the legendary English actor,” the website said.


Oct. 6: A Tribute to Malcolm McDowell with the film "Never Apologize" at 6:30 p.m.

“This evening honoring one of the world's most dynamic actors includes a compilation reel, a conversation with Malcolm about his extensive career and a screening of a hard-to-find film,” the website said.


Oct 7: Coast Jazz Underground at 8 p.m.

“Kicking off The Fully Celebrated Orchestra's year-long residency with Coast,” the website said.


Oct. 8: Democracy on Camera: Join or Die at 6:30 p.m.

“This compelling and playful documentary is about why you should join a club — and why the fate of American democracy depends on it. Pre-show discussion,” the website said.


Oct. 8: Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble at 8 p.m.

“Passion. Precision. An exquisite evening of string music,” the website said.


Oct. 10: Didi at 7 p.m.

“This irreverent Sundance audience award winner follows a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy as he navigates the joy and chaos of first-gen adolescence,” the website said.


Oct. 12: Dartmouth Film Society 75th: Gaslight at 7 p.m.

“Nominated for all the major Oscars, this psychological noir starring Ingrid Bergman is where the term "gaslighting" comes from,” the website said.


Oct. 13: Between the Temples at 4 p.m.

“Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane star in this unorthodox screwball comedy about a cantor losing his faith and his 70-year-old bat mitzvah student,” the website said.


Oct. 13: Just Getting By at 7 p.m.

“Filmmaker Bess O'Brien explores the incredible resiliency of Vermonters struggling with food and housing insecurity. Discussion follows,” the website said.


Oct. 16: Somi at 8 p.m.

“Serious and seductive," (NYT) the vocalist blends jazz, African rhythms and poignant storytelling. Let her breathtaking voice be your guide,” the website said.


Oct. 18: Deep Rising at 6:30 p.m.

“Narrated by Jason Momoa, this vital documentary illuminates the connection between the ocean's most dazzling creatures and sustaining all life on Earth. Pre-screening discussion,” the website said.


Oct. 19: Met Opera in HD “Grounded” at 1 p.m.

“Mezzo-soprano Emily D'Angelo stars as a hot-shot fighter pilot in Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori's dramatic examination of the cost of modern warfare,” the website said.


Oct. 19: Kneecap at 7 p.m.

“The Belfast hip-hop group KNEECAP play themselves in this raucous and funny origin story, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures,” the website said.


Oct. 20: Dartmouth Film Society 75th: The Kid at 4 p.m.

“Charlie Chaplin's first feature finds the down-but-never-out Tramp adopting a foundling child,” the website said.


Oct. 23: The Lone Bellow at 8 p.m.

“Harmonies find new heights with this Nashville trio and their soulful blend of Americana, rock and roots music,” the website said.


Oct. 24: Dartmouth Film Society 75th: Sugarcane at 7 p.m.

“An investigation into abuse and missing children at an Indian residential school ignites a reckoning in this stunning tribute to the resilience of Native people,” the website said.


Oct. 25 and 26: Coast Jazz Orchestra at 9 p.m.

“In the tradition of big bands in small clubs, like the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra at the Village Vanguard or the Sun Ra Arkestra at Slug's, the full Coast Jazz Orchestra moves into Sawtooth for a weekend of music, two sets a night over two nights,” the website said.


Oct. 26: Dia De Los Muertos Celebration at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

“Create art for Day of the Dead to add to our shrine and experience live mariachi music!” the website said.


Oct. 26: Perugino: Eternal Renaissance at 4 p.m.

“A visually rich documentary about one of the most revered artists of the 15th century, an early master of perspective, line and color. Pre-show gallery talk at the Hood Museum of Art,” the website said.


Oct. 27: Lost Nation at 2 p.m.

“Jay Craven interweaves the stories of two Revolutionary War-era Vermonters: the rebel schemer Ethan Allen and Lucy Terry Prince, a formerly enslaved woman defending her family from local intimidation,” the website said.


Oct. 30: Dartmouth College Glee Club at 7:30 p.m.

“The club kicks off the year with a selection of choral favorites,” the website said.


Oct. 31: Invasion of the Body Snatchers at 7 p.m.

“This brilliantly whip-smart statement on urban paranoia and loss of individuality stars Donald Sutherland, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum. Discussion follows,” the website said.
